[Spam for Jim]

McCoy still didn't like the deck, but he was starting to reach an uneasy understanding with it. He'd done a lot of work with trying to over come his discomfort with space travel and space itself since he'd started at Starfleet, especially after he realized he was probably going to be talked into actually serving on a ship by Jim, rather than staying planetside somewhere to work in a clinic or lab, and so even if it was still weird as hell to step out and see nothing but stars and blackness, he didn't have to consciously fight back extreme panic every time he went up above deck.

So, he'd agreed to head up to the pub with Jim, suspicious of the new changes, but not anticipating it being much worse than it already had been, and he followed his friend up the stairs without actually complaining about it.

"I still can't believe you got lost."

[And Public, a while after the Spam:]

The Doctor's right, the deck isn't safe. It felt like something was trying to pull us over.

"You didn't see her." [Alright so it was stupid but he was a little buzzed and the girl had been cute and one thing led to another and he didn't recognize the alley he was in. If they'd been planetside with Enterprise it wouldn't have been a big deal. Scotty could find him anywhere.]

"... this ship is getting creepier every day." [Stating the obvious but it was the first time he'd seen the deck since returning to the Barge.]

"Yeah." [Jim agreed quietly, glancing around for a moment and then back at Bones.] "C'mon, let's go drink."

[Jim rolled his shoulders absentmindedly. He felt something watching him or staring or maybe there was just some creep roaming around now. Whatever the reason, he didn't care much for it, but he was better at hiding it than perhaps Bones was. It helped having lived here for basically two years.]

"It's nothing, Bones. It's all in our heads. Okay?"

"Someone staring at us? Yeah, I feel it. But it's nothing. Just ignore it."

"It's nothing, Bones." [He clapped a hand on McCoy's shoulder and started tugging him towards the railing. Because exposure therapy works great.] "It's all in your head, okay?"

[Okay, that.. was a stronger reaction than Jim had been expecting. Whether McCoy's paranoia was starting to affect him or if he was really starting to feel it himself, he couldn't say. But Jim shivered anyway and held out a cautious hand again.]

"Okay. I'm sorry. We'll go back below deck, okay? Forget the drink. I'll make you moonshine or something."

I'm not sure whether I'm glad that I'm not the only one.

[identity profile] doctor-scarf.livejournal.com 2011-10-28 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Considering that multiple people have had that feeling, I assume it's telepathic. Or at least, there's a telepath who wants us to be afraid of the railing.

[identity profile] doctor-scarf.livejournal.com 2011-10-28 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I don't see why you should be. Before all this started, I was more suspicious of the Admiral than the railing.

Don't worry, I can't think of a single person who's fallen aboard on the Barge.

Not while she's in motion. Sometimes when she docks. But you can be anywhere on the ship for that, even in Zero.

THAT'S HIS JOB

I believe so. People might have jumped off or have been pushed off, but nobody's accidentally fallen off the side. At least, like Gaheris said, not while she's in motion.
